- July 30, 2008

Starting Wednesday August 6th, the Sitting Ducks will be playing every Wednesday at the Sunset Bar & Grill (5800 S. Lewis in the London Square Shopping Center 918-949-6565). The Sunset is a great venue that offers food, drinks and nice family atmosphere, yes family atmosphere. It is an all ages venue with no smoking in the restaurant, so feel free to bring the kids for dinner and enjoy the Siting Ducks show. It is also our understanding that the Sunset will be hosting bike nights on Wednesday, so polish up the scooter and bring it out to dazzle everyone!

Whiz, Dave and Bruce @ the hospital

Whiz's World

Our steel guitar player, Lee Roy "Whiz" Whisenhunt underwent a triple by-pass surgery July 7. The doctors said the surgery was "text book perfect". The Whiz was released from the hospital and back at his home July 12th recuperating. Although Lee Roy is a bit sore, he is quickly healing and doing extremely well.

He and his wife Susan made a brief appearance at the Duck's Side Line show Sunday July 27. Lee Roy was as feisty as ever and said he should be back in playing shape in 4-5 weeks.

In his absence our good friend and keyboard master Mr. Rick Morrow has been sitting in with the Ducks doing a great job.

Be ready for a great party when the Whiz returns!!

"The Sitting Ducks: The Next Generation" is on the horizon.

In case you were unaware, Sunday Nov. 24, 2007 was the last Sunday show at the Elephant Run for the ‘Sitting Ducks’. The Ducks started Sundays with a simple handshake and a three month agreement "to see what happens." After nearly five years, a rather lengthy life for a band, let alone a single stint at one club, the Ducks have many things of which to be proud:

A New Year's Day Guinness World Record Book attempt for longest concert by a band, (Hell, we should have gotten in the book for largest attendance for a band on New Year's Day.)

Fund raisers for such wonderful organizations as Blue Star Mothers, Tulsa SPCA and MDA.

The Ducks have released and sold two self-produced CD's--"Sitting Ducks Live At The Elephant Run" and "Duck Side Of The Moon". We have also sold hundreds of our logo t-shirts.

The Ducks have had the privilege to play with such Tulsa legends as Billy Snow, Bill Davis, Jimmy "Jr." Markham, Dwight Twilley, Lorri Duke and Pat Savage. We have also had the honor to play with some of our best buddies: Dave Armstrong, Ray Hamilton, Jeff Smith, Mark Blicamp, Johnny Duke, David Skinner, Jeremy Clifford, Joey Triveno, Rick Morrow, Sarah Wagoner, Kevin Flynn, Russell Grant, Bill Hoy, Terry Cooper, Scott Christmann, Johnny "JJ" Jones, David Russell, Randy Edwards, Joel Eads, Mark Snider, Issy Martin, the guys and girl from Time Machine, David Knight, Don Price, Fred Gonzales, Uncalled 4, Sherri Booth, Miles & Kim Jacobs, Rick Lyles, Dale Thompson, David Thayer, Rick Berryman, Rick Auten, Terry Brawley, Tom Crow, Trey Barnes, J. Brown, Robert Combs, "little" Danny Baker plus the great musicians from Oktoberfest. A virtual who's who of the Tulsa music scene!!

We certainly cannot forget the "huge talent pool" we discovered with our "variety show": Jodan, Ryan Thompson, Christian Jones, Laid Back Manor, Three of One, the Petty Bone Dance Troupe and of course Miss Betty The Toe-Whistler just to mention a few!

All this from a band that played literally one night a week--a Sunday no less. Not a shabby track record, don't you think?

At this point The Sitting Ducks are free agents. Not to worry though, negotiations are under way and a new Duck roost and will be announced very soon. Check back for a complete announcement.

David Dover, our third guitar player during the course of the Duck run has decided he would like to move on after the first of the coming year. We wish him well and have a talent lined up that we think will make for a improved and bigger Ducks show!!

Most of all, thanks to every one of our wonderful friends that have taken a few hours out of their Sundays to stop in and see us. Our friends are anyone who is reading this, remembers fondly any or all of the above mentioned events, laughed or moaned at one or more of our silly jokes or bits, got out on the dance floor and had a great time or just walked away dazed at the spectacle that is the Sitting Ducks Show. We hope you all know how truly grateful we are for your support over the past years. It has been a crazy, fun and wonderful experience. Thanks for being with us!!

We have a full year worth of shows booked in 2008. The future is coming and the Ducks would love to have you join us. Trust us, it will be fun!!!!!

"Tiger" News: As almost everyone at this time knows, the Sitting Ducks' rhythmoligist "Tiger" was involved in a horrific automobile accident. The hit and run accident occurred late Thursday night, March 8, 2007, at the intersection of Interstate 44 service road and Lewis Ave. Tiger's friend Richard Lee Brown was pronounced DOA and Tiger was rushed to St. John's hospital with multiple broken ribs, a collapsed lung, injuries to his shoulder and collar bones and many cuts, scratches and bruises. Tiger's car was demolished. The assailant was arrested a block from the crash site on complaints of first-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an injury or fatal accident and driving under the influence. At this time we are happy to report that Tiger was released from the hospital Tuesday, March 13, 2007, and although beat-up and sore is home recuperating well. It is hoped he will be back at the show sometime in June.

Fox Meets Duck: Vixen , one of the most successful all-female Hard Rock bands in the world, hit Tulsa on their US tour this year before they headed out to Europe. We had a chance to meet these wonderful people and see the show. Not only did they blow us away with their performance but also, they surprised us by wearing our famous Sitting Ducks t-shirts !! We thought it was only appropriate to share this picture with you guys :-) We'd like to thank Vixen for their friendship and a wonderful musical experience.

Sitting Ducks

Guinness attempt: Tulsa World, 1-6-2005
No Guinness record

Local cover band The Sitting Ducks, which plays everything from blues to Western swing, was unsuccessful in its attempt to break the Guinness world record for the longest concert, last weekend at the Elephant Run, Best Western Trade Winds Central Inn.

The group played for 22 1/2 hours -- a feat worth praising in itself -- but the band was unable to surpass the Grand Boys, a Scottish act that holds the record for playing 42 hours and 38 minutes.

The rules for the attempt were these: Each of the band's seven members had to play on every song or they would be retired. At least four band members had to be playing by the end of the attempt. The band couldn't repeat a song within a four-hour period. And they only got 15 minute breaks every eight hours.

When the attempt was over, drummer David Dunham said the band did what you'd expect from a band that had played for almost 24 hours.

"Basically, we all went home, had showers and took a nap," he said.

Dunham added that he'd like to thank all the Tulsans who came out to support the band during the attempt.

"We were really pleased and amazed that the town kind of embraced us the way they did," he said.

Although the band's initial attempt at the record foundered, Dunham said the Ducks will go for the record again.
"We're not sure of any date, but we are looking at this again," he said. "It's certainly on our list of things to do."
